Museum District Houston

Museum District in Houston

The blocks northwest of Hermann Park, southwest of downtown, are home to Houston's major museums. The Museum of Fine Arts which dates back to 1900 is the oldest art museum in Texas. Among its large collection you will find famous French Impressionists, American Modernists and Texan Postmodernists. The sculpture garden which is located across the road contains works by people such as Rodin. Nothing stays put for long inside the stainless steel walls of the Contemporary Arts Museum. As there are no permanent shows on view the museum will host more than ten temporary shows each year all of a good standard and worth a look. Once again children are catered for at the crayon-coloured playground for the mind known as the Children's Museum of Houston. Adults will find much entertainment vas they sit and watch children attempting to milk the mechanical cow. The Holocaust Museum is a thorough and poignant memorial .The museum was opened first in 1996 and shows many videos of holocaust survivors . The permanent exhibit which is deliberately housed in a black cylinder traces the lives of many Jews from before the war through the holocaust and after the war as they attempted to rebuild their lives.
